THE TWO PEWS STORY
Pews can be hard, a little uncomfortable, and they often represent the past—a symbol of rigid tradition. But if you look closely, pews tell beautiful stories.
You can see it in the wear and tear of the wood grain, the history carved into them, and the ways they can be repurposed. Today, you’ll find old church pews in coffee shops, music studios, and living rooms. As it turns out, an old, repurposed church pew makes the perfect bench to sit on, play a guitar, and make music with others.
Two Pews was born out of this tension between honoring tradition and repurposing it for the future. We exist to help the Church move past institutional survival and step back into spiritual revival.
The Spark: A Wesleyan Pilgrimage
In 2022, our founder embarked on a Wesleyan pilgrimage, retracing the 18th-century steps of John and Charles Wesley to understand the roots of the early Methodist movement. While exploring those historic sites, a powerful detail emerged:
The early Methodist buildings didn’t have fixed, rigid pews. They used movable benches.
This was intentional. It allowed people to not only gather in large groups for preaching but to quickly reposition the benches for face-to-face, small-group conversations and personal encounters.
When we turn two pews toward one another, the entire energy of the space changes. The dynamic shifts. We move from passive spectators watching a stage to active participants looking at each other. Together, in that shared space, we can make music, spark honest dialogue, and explore what is truly possible.
Reclaiming the "Method"
Two Pews Media exists to reignite that original, adaptive fire. We believe the key to the future of the United Methodist Church isn't in inventing something entirely new, but in reclaiming our original, actionable DNA. We call this the Practical Quadrilateral:
